Chapter Eighteen

When Chris called Danny for dinner, he got no answer. He’d been keeping an ear out, so knew Danny had gone upstairs. Jogging up after him, he checked all the bedrooms, finding them empty, the bathrooms too. Trying the third floor, he found Danny fast asleep on a beanbag. Not wanting to disturb him, he grabbed a blanket from another room and covered him with it.

Returning to the kitchen, he covered Danny’s meal and set it in the microwave before eating his own at the small breakfast table. Despite his fears, the house was a nice place to be cooped up in. The only difficulty now was what to do next.

He thought through that while he ate dinner. One of the biggest differences between humans and shifters, which wasn’t universal among humans, was comfort with their own bodies, knowing the hows and whys of them.

Danny, in contrast, was afraid of his body and what it held. That kind of psychological block could be enough to stymie a shifter, even without the biological factors. And if Chris was right, about close contact with other shifters bringing him back to rights, then Danny didn’t just need to get comfortable with himself, he needed to be comfortable with Chris, too.

He began to put together a plan in his mind. They’d start tomorrow, making good use of the upstairs rooms, and taking full advantage of Danny’s joint pain as the excuse they needed.
